REFORMATION DAY

Sola Scriptura, Solus Christus, Sola Fide, Sola Gratia, and Sola Deo Gloria are the 5 solas which represent the heart of the Reformation. Though the Reformation presented what seemed like a new teaching for that day, it was not a new teaching or understanding of the Scriptures, but rather a return to the foundational truths and principles found within the Scriptures. These foundational principles help us not only understand Scripture, but help us live out Scripture as well.

We see how the Scripture is God’s flawless word that equips His children to carry out His will and sanctifies the believer. We see how Scripture exalts the centrality and exclusivity of Christ, showing that is only through Christ that man may be saved. We see how the Scriptures teach that our salvation is by Faith alone in Christ alone, and not by works, which in turn leads us to a life of obedience. This also, is by God’s grace, an unmerited and undeserved gift, taking away any credit or boasting we may have over our salvation. Finally, this all culminates in the final point, which is that it is all for the glory of God alone.Dear ones, we are all great sinners, yet the truth is that we do not understand how sinful we really are.

The beauty of the Reformation is that it took man’s gaze off of himself and turned it back towards the Scriptures in which is found the everlasting and beautiful promises of God. Though this by no means lessens the weight of our sin and the need for repentance, it offers peace and hope in the finished work of Christ on the cross.

Therefore, on this Reformation day, let us live reformed lives. Lives that exalt the supremacy of Scripture; Lives lived by faith in Christ, by His grace, and for His glory.
