SOLI DEO GLORIA

Scripture has told us that we all have sinned against a perfect and holy God. Due to our sin, we deserve His wrath and punishment. God, however, has chosen to save us through the substitutionary life and death of Jesus on the cross.

Why have we been given forgiveness when we deserved punishment? Why have we been shown mercy when we deserved justice? The answer is because God is rich in mercy, love, and His grace has done this for us. He alone has brought this beautiful plan of salvation to pass from “before the foundations of the earth” as Ephesians tells us.

Salvation has been revealed to us by Scripture alone. Salvation has been accomplished in Christ alone. We are now justified by grace through faith in Jesus alone. Our salvation is not for our own glory, but is for the glory of God alone, for He alone deserves the glory!

Spurgeon said “It is ours to reflect the light, to impart the knowledge, to manifest the glory, to point to the Saviour’s face, and to proclaim the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Having such a work before us, we faint not, but press onward with our whole heart.”

As we think back to all that the Reformers did for the proclamation of the gospel, let us not forget that it is God alone who deserves glory for it, and let us glorify God in everything that we do. Let us go forward “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of God” Hebrews 12:2
