Servanthood

1 Corinthians 15:58
”Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

Being a servant should be among the first thing we think about when it comes to our spiritual walk.
Servanthood mean we understand an important role for ourselves and that will impact those around us.

Considering how important servanthood lets describe it briefly:

  1. A servant is Humble.

If we do the work of the Lord only to gain self esteem or impress others then our service is wastful. In Phillipians 2:3 we read:
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”
Humilty is a characteristic of a servant that shows how to prioritize our lives to do Gods Will first through obedience.

  2. A servant puts others before themselves
Servanthood is about making the name of the Lord known, not ours.
We read in Philippians 2:4 "Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."

  3. A servant has the right heart attitude
When we have the right attitude, we glorify the Lord in all that we do.
1 Corinthains 10:31 gives us the command:
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

Without the right attitude, even our service is futile. This attitude does not come naturally to us. When Christ came into the world, He established a whole new attitude to relationships with others. Some personification of servanthood is shown in the Bible through a few examples:

    Moses
He was meek and humble, God used him to deliver his people from Egypt

    Esther
She was willing to put her life on the line for her people no matter the outcome.

    Peter
His commitment to serving others and following Jesus is evident in the changes we see in him after his transformation

The Christian life is one that is to reflect the Christ in all areas. Like Jesus, we are to be humble, meek, compassionate and sacrificial in our service to God and man. Your service comes from the fact that every Christian is a slave of God. You can be either an obedient slave or a disobedient slave, but you are His slave. Your purpose in life is to serve Him however He directs!
